Hello Book Friends,

I'm a Curriculum Specialist, grant writer, and recently rekindled reader. I read a few great pieces of fiction the past few years and I suddenly remembered just how rejuvenating it was to sit with a great book.

I had set a goal to read 300 novels by the time I turned 30, and I made it to 295. I won't include anything on my list that I can't remember. So, sorry "The Turn of the Screw" I have no idea what happens within your pages even though at one point I read all of you.

I would like to read more graphic novels, short fiction and more of the authors that have captured me with one book. Some of my favorite authors are here in my list of 5 best books:

1. Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie
2. American Gods by Neil Gaiman
3. March by Geraldine Brooks
4. The Road by Cormac McCarthy
5. Freakonomics by Steven Levitt

Bonus: The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
Double Bonus cause I just finished it and loved it: Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King (my first Stephen King ever! I get it now!)

Good luck to everyone in a year of reading!
Jackie

  1. The only thing I remember about Turn of the Screw was that I had absolutely no idea that's what The Others (starring Nicole Kidman) was referencing when I saw that movie.... So, basically, I fault you nothing for not remembering Turn of the Screw :)

    1. I had to read way to much late 19th century literature and just couldn't handle it anymore. Henry James just doesn't do it for me but thank you for legitimizing my avoidance of a "classic".

  2. I don't remember most of the books I read! I'm convinced that they're all in there somewhere, in the underground rivers of me. But plot lines? Character names? Pffft! The Road, though. I do remember The Road. Vividly. The cellar...

    1. I never ever cry reading books (3 in my whole life) and The Road was one of them because of how haunting those moments of love and sadness were
